Paul Modrich, James B. Duke Professor of Medicine, was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize for Chemistry along with Tomas Lindahl of the Francis Crick Institute and Clare Hall Laboratory in the UK, and Aziz Sancar of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for mechanistic studies of DNA repair

Topic

Mechanisms in human DNA mismatch repair

We have identified 9 activities that are sufficient to reconstitute strand-directed human mismatch repair in vitro and have established basic features of the pathway that account for its function in replication error correction. These studies will be summarized, and implications of the mechanism of strand direction  will be considered in the context of mismatch repair involvement in mutation production and the mode of action of an environmental mutagen

Audience

Free and open to the university community and the public.

Host

Paul Schedl, Department of Molecular Biology
