Leica RM2255 Rotary Microtome

This microtome is used to section tissue that has been fixed and embedded in either paraffin or resin. This type of sectioning is required when maintaining proper morphology of the tissue is critical. The microtome will enable to cut sections 0.5um to 100um in thickness. The sections are needed for small tissue including, but not limited to sectioning of zebrafish embryo. The ability to also do larger sections will make this useful for mouse brain slices and others.

Leica CM3050S Cryostat

This cryostat is used for sectioning of frozen tissue sample. Benefits of cryosection are that not only its sample preparation time is shorter than paraffin sample preparation, but also the cryosection can be used for immunohistochemistry or in situ analysis with better antigenicity. This cryostat has the ability to section 0.5μm to 300μm in thickness and can be cooled down to -40°C.

Leica ASP 300S Automated Tissue Processor

This tissue processor provides automatic formalin-fixation, EtOH-dehydration, and paraffin-infiltration of tissue sample(s).

Miles Scientific Tissue-TEK Tissue Embedding Center

This allows the tissue sample to be embedded into mold with paraffin to make paraffin block.

Glass Knife Maker

This knife maker provides a glass knife for semi-thin and ultra-thin sectioning with ultramicrotome.
