The course is designed to explore the molecular events that contribute to the onset and progression of human cancer. We will review the central elements that make up the cell cycle, followed by a survey of the signal transduction and checkpoint pathways that regulate and coordinate the cell cycle with other cellular events. We will discuss oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes and mutator genes. We will then explore specific clinical case studies in light of the molecular events underlying different forms of cancer.
