Dr. Erica Shor, a postdoctoral fellow in the Broach lab, was awarded the ACS fellowship for her research proposal Stress-induced Mutation in a Eukaryote. She has proposed to develop a new type of yeast mutation assay where a mutation will result in luminescence and can thus be detected almost immediately. Once the assay is operational, it will be used to detect new mutations that arise in cell populations in response to environmental stress.
