Cowles Wins NIH Kirschstein Award

Kimberly Cowles, a post-doctoral fellow in the Gitai lab, was awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the NIH. This award will fund her proposal titled “Subcellular Protein Localization in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.” The overall goal of her project is to characterize the role of protein localization in bacterial virulence, specifically focusing on the mechanisms that control subcellular localization of two model localized virulence factors, the flagellum and type IV pili, in the bacterial pathogen P. aeruginosa.
