Cowles Awarded Kirschstein Funding
Charles Cowles, a postdoctoral fellow in the Silhavy lab received the Ruth Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the NIH for his project Surface-exposure of lipoproteins in Gram-negative Bacteria. Over the next two years he will examine surface-exposed lipoproteins in E. coli. Unlike many Gram-negative pathogens, E. coli is widely believed not to express any such proteins. Cowles hopes to understand the rules that govern the sorting of lipoproteins to the E. coli cell surface.
