Teresa Beeson, a postdoctoral fellow in Shenk's lab was awarded the three year Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for her project Human Cytomegalovirus Episome Maintenance and Propagation of Genetic Damage. After establishing a protocol for unambiguous determination of cytomegalovirus episome maintenance, Teresa will study the maintenance of viral genomes in various cell types and work towards determining the key factors that govern episome maintenance. Teresa will also study the genetic damage induced by cytomegalovirus and whether the damage can be propagated to cell progeny.
