Annual Molecular Biology Retreat
- Posted on February 10, 2006
Over 200 faculty members, staff, postdocs, and graduate students descended upon the beautiful Pocono mountains this year to participate in the 23rd annual retreat. Held at the Fernwood Hotel from September 7-9, nearly every hour was filled, from excellent scientific talks and poster presentations to an 80s dance party and a concert courtesy of Dante Ricci. The retreat allows first year graduate students the opportunity to meet faculty and socialize with more senior researchers, as well as offering an opportunity for researchers to present their work in an informal setting.
Professors Coleen Murphy and Manuel Llinás chaired the event, which included guest lecturer Charles Offria of Michigan State University.
The winner of our t-shirt contest was Raja Jasdave, whose elegant “unwinding” design graced a shirt given to each attendee, as well as the retreat booklet.
Prizes for best poster were awarded to Josh Forman and Shin-Yi Lin. Forrest Collman and Johna van Stelten were recognized for their excellent talks. Honorable mentions went to Arati Tripathi and Oliver Grimm.
Danielle Snowflack, Michael Ingerson-Mayer, Kim Tu, and Kari Baker were recognized for excellence in teaching.
We hope you enjoy the photos of the event, and look forward to seeing you next year at the shore!
