Tim Weil '08 Wins Drosophila Award
Timothy Weil, who received his PhD in 2008, was just awarded the prestigious Larry Sandler Memorial Award for his dissertation "bicoid mRNA localization in Drosophila late oogenesis and early embryogenesis". The award was established in memory of Dr. Larry Sandler, following his untimely death in 1987, in honor of Sandler's contributions to Drosophila genetics and his dedication to training Drosophila biologists. The award is for the best thesis in Drosophila research in the past year and competition was fierce this year. The award was presented March 4 at the 50th Annual Drosophila Research Conference in Chicago. Tim gave a special presentation on his thesis research at the conference and received a plaque.
