For students wishing to begin their graduate studies earlier than September, the Department of Molecular Biology offers a summer lab rotation. This rotation begins on July 1st and ends on August 31st. Stipend support for housing and living expenses is available. Students are encouraged to contact the faculty member with whom they would like to perform a summer rotation to arrange a position and to inform the department by May 15th.
Summer Project Lab (MOL 500)
Each August, the Department offers an optional intensive four-week summer course focused on teaching critical reading of primary scientific literature and fundamental laboratory skills in molecular biology. For more information, see Molecular Biology Graduate Courses.
The Department hosts an annual retreat to allow first year graduate students the opportunity to meet faculty, socialize with other members of the department, and attend talks presented by more senior graduate students and postdocs. This event takes place in September or October and is mandatory for first year students.
