NEU 501b Lab: From Molecules to Systems to Behavior
Note: Either NEU501A or NEU501B, but not both, can be counted as a core course in the MOL graduate program.
This lab course will introduce students to a variety of techniques and concepts used in modern neuroscience, from the point of view of experimental and computational/quantitative approaches. Topics will include synaptic transmission, fluorescent and viral tracers, patch clamp recording in brain slices, optogenetic methods to control neural activity, and computational modeling approaches. In-lab lectures will prepare students with the background necessary to understand the scientific content of the labs, but the emphasis will be on the labs themselves. Laboratory work and laboratory write-ups.
